There, I feel better.
According to a McGlatchey poll a majority of general election voters says they can't or won't consider voting for Hillary Clinton. There is hope for America. Although, I can't help wondering why Hillary doesn't get the message. Neither does Andrew.

It is odd, queer even, that Andrew Sullivan would ask, “Why would any political party in its right mind nominate someone who would concede more than half the electorate before she starts?” He is, of course, speaking of Sen. Hilary Clinton. He says that it is more striking that a politician is “trying to regain the power of the presidency,” knowing she has this effect on the country.
First, he says that 60 percent of independents, 56 percent of men, 47 percent of women and 88 percent of Republicans say they wouldn't consider voting for her. They wouldn’t even *consider* voting for her. He does not quote the numbers for Democrats or what percentage of the men and women quoted separately were Republicans.
Then, it is strange - his usage of the phrase, regain the power of the presidency. The Democrats have come to stand for the unempowered, the disenfranchised and the disadvantaged whereas the Republicans stand for the establishment, the way things have always been. It does not escape me that the very same people who find it perfectly acceptable and advantageous to use whatever connections they have for their own advancement and personal profit were hostile to what they perceived was a woman using her position as first lady to promote her own agenda and, possibly, herself.
Finally, Sullivan seems blind to the fact that discrimination may play a role, particularly within the Republican Party, in how the electorate views this woman candidate. Andrew Sullivan is a gay man. I daresay the numbers would go through the roof if a gay man tried to occupy the White House, even more so if he came with a first “life partner.”
